Go into the 'multiplayer' menu. As soon as you do this ZoneAlarm *should* throw up a 'permissions' warning flag which you need to say 'yes no' to, click the 'remember setting' checkbox (use AltTAB to jump between Quake 3 and Zone Alarm so you can actually click on the warning flag).
